In Class:  Introduction to Periodic Table and Introduction to Matter (Chapter 1:1) — Substances and Mixtures.

Expectations:  Students will be able to identify groups and periods, metals, nonmetals, metalloids, and the noble gases on the Periodic Table.   Students will be able to identify substances and mixtures.

Due:  Scientific Notation and Percent Error Worksheet.

Homework:  Finish the Substances and Mixtures Worksheet.

26 September 2023:

In Class:  Chemical and Physical Properties (Chapter 1:12-13).

Expectations:  Students will be able to identify chemical and physical changes and state why a change is chemical or physical.

Lab 3a:
Complete the data collection for the US Pennies Lab.

Expectations:  Students will be able to calculate the percentage of metals in an alloy from density.
Students will be able to analyze the quality of lab data based on the number of significant figures.

Lab Report:  Finish reports.

29 September 2023:

In Class:  Separating Mixtures (Chapter 1:3).

Expectations:  Students will be able to choose the best method for physically separating mixtures and identify the key feature or physical property that allows the separation.

Due:  The Chemical and Physical Changes Worksheet.
