4 September 2023:

No Class:  Labor Day.

5 September 2023:

No Class:  Teacher in-service day.

6 September 2023:

In Class:  Books, Class Expectations, Course Syllabus, and the Safety Agreement.

Expectations:  Students will keep the expectations and syllabus in their notes for future reference but the safety agreement must be read and signed.  Students will be using the safety sheet as a reference to answer safety questions on labs throughout the year.

Homework:  Both students and parents must read and sign the Safety Agreement by Monday, 12 September.

7 September 2023:

In Class:  From Veritassium:  The Science of Thinking and The Most Common Cognitive Bias

Introduction to Chemistry.  (Chapter 1:1 to 1:2)

Expectations:  Students will be able to identify compounds, elements, and mixtures and be able to explain the differences between a hypothesis, theory, and law.

Homework:  Finish The Science of Thinking and The Most Common Cognitive Bias worksheets.

8 September 2023:

In Class:  Review the Lab Reports sheet.  Write a sample Density of Copper lab report.

Expectations:  Students will write lab reports referring to this guide to produce the correct report format.

Expectations:  Students will write correct element names from symbols or symbols from names.

Lab Report:  A copy of the sample lab report is due on Monday.

Homework:  Complete the Element Symbol Worksheet then use it to make flash cards to study for the element quiz.  You must know the names and symbols for each element.

Note:  1st quarter ends 9 November 2023.
