27 September 2021:

In Class:  Scalar and Vector Quantities.  Minimum and Maximum Vector Sums.

Expectations:  Students will be able to explain the difference between scalar and vector quantities and to eliminate incorrect vector sums based on the minimum and maximum possible vector sums.

Due:  Page 1:142 ( 65 – 69 ).

Homework:  Pages 1:142-143 ( 70 – 77 ).

28 September 2021:

In Class:  Finding Resultants Graphically (parallelogram and triangle methods).

Expectations:  Students will be able to solve vector addition graphically using parallelogram and triangle methods.

Due:  Pages 1:142-143 ( 70 – 77 ).

Homework:  Pages 1:143-144 ( 78 – 81 ).

29 September 2021:

In Class:  Finding Resultants of Perpendicular Components Algebraically.

  • c 2 = a 2 + b 2
  • c = hypotenuse
    a = one leg
    b = second leg
  • Right triangle
  • Expectations:  Students will be able to solve for resultants of perpendicular components.

    Due:  Pages 1:143-144 ( 78 – 81 ).

    Homework:  Pages 1:144-146 ( 82 – 94 ).

    30 September 2021:

    No Class:  Physics does not meet on Thursday.

    1 October 2021:

    In Class:  Resolving a Vector into Vertical and Horizontal Components.

  • Ay = A sin θ
    Ax = A cos θ
  • A = Any vector
    Ay = Vertical component of A
    Ax = Horizontal component of A
    θ = Angle from A to horizontal
  • Right triangle
  • Expectations:  Students will be able to resolve a vector into vertical and horizontal components algebraically.

    Due:  Pages 1:144-146 ( 82 – 94 ).

    Homework:  Pages 1:147-148 ( 95 – 101 ).

    Lab 2a:
    Finish the Orienteering Lab (graphical vectors) Part a.

    Expectations:  Students will solve for the resultant of vectors graphically.

    Note:  1st quarter ends 12 November 2021.
